Formfile

Setup guide

Formfile works with the Google Form you already have. You change one question, connect the form, and share a new link.

1. Replace the File upload question

Google Forms requires a sign-in as long as the form has a File upload question anywhere in it, so it has to go.

  1. Open your form in Google Forms.
  2. Add a new question and set its type to Short answer (or Paragraph if you'll allow several files).
  3. Give it the same title as your upload question, for example "Upload your resume". Copy the description too, and switch on Required if the file is required.
  4. Delete the old File upload question.
Files people already uploaded stay in your Google Drive, in the folder Google Forms created for this form.

2. Check two settings

In Google Forms, open Settings, then Responses:

  • Collect email addresses: use "Do not collect" or "Responder input". "Verified" needs a Google sign-in.
  • Limit to 1 response: turn it off. It also needs a Google sign-in.

If your Google account is a school or work account, also check that the form isn't restricted to people in your organization (the "Restrict to users in…" setting).

3. Connect the form in Formfile

  1. Sign in with Google. Formfile asks for permission to create files in your Drive; it can't see anything else there.
  2. Click Connect a form and paste your form's link. Use the link you send to people (from Send, or Publish and the link icon), not the editing link.
  3. Turn on the questions that should take files. Formfile switches on likely ones for you, like anything with "upload", "resume" or "photo" in the title.
  4. Pick the file types and how many files each question accepts, then save.

4. Share the Formfile link

Each form gets a link like formfile.app/f/k3m9q2v8tx. Send that link wherever you used to send the Google one, or paste the embed code into your website.

Before sharing, open the link and send yourself a test response. Check that it appears in Google Forms with a working Drive link.

Editing your form later

Keep editing in Google Forms. Formfile reads the live form, so new questions and wording changes show up within a minute. If you add another upload question, come back to Formfile and switch it on.

Something not working?

Email hello@formfile.app with your form's Formfile link. A person reads every message.
